The night was warm and the air wet when I stumbled into the dimly lit room. The only light was that of the streetlamp outside the window. Perhaps that second scotch was a bit much, but it was a long day. My mind drifted back to the case I’d been working on. Something just doesn’t add up. It was about then when I flipped the switch on the lamp. There she was by the door, looking like an angel. She threw a coy glance over her shoulder, a halo of white seemed to surround her golden hair. A hasty glance at the clock reminded me of just how long I was at the office going over those files. Then I knew…I missed dinner. As I approached I could see that the dish was empty. How long had she been sitting there…waiting…like an angel.
